Give ‘em hell, Ray
Ray Stevens, the country music cultural satirist of the 1970s (remember “The Streak”?) is back big time.
More than 1.2 million viewers have hit his “We the People” YouTube music video in just over two weeks. The song skewers Congress for rushing through an unpopular health care bill.
The catch line chorus: “You vote ObamaCare, we’ll vote you outta there” ought to be turned into a bumper sticker, if it hasn’t been already.
It’s a fair warning to congressional Democrats who are stubbornly oblivious to the public’s distaste for a federal government takeover of the health care system.
The popularity of the posting by a singer who dropped off the radar 20 years ago reflects the growing frustration of Americans who are tired of being ignored as Congress marches ahead with its own agenda.
That’s bad news for politicians who have forgotten that being a representative means they should at least pretend to represent the will of the people who elected them.
